| Post-mortem Tissue Review | Comprehensive post-mortem tissue review includes trimming, processing, embedding, staining, and expert pathology evaluation of submitted formalin-fixed tissues, culminating in a detailed diagnostic report. We also offer pre-submission guidance on necropsy approach and tissue collection; fees are tailored to case complexity, and a complete history is required for optimal interpretation. *Price and turnaround time depends on the complexity of the case and can be discussed at time of submission. Tissue preparation: Tissue should be cut into small enough samples that formalin will penetrate the tissue completely (although tissues vary this typically means no thicker than 1 cm). If larger pieces of tissue are desired (i.e., liver, kidney, spleen, etc.), bread loaf the tissue approximately every 0.5-1 cm. The heart can be submitted in its entity but please make sure the heart is open and the blood from inside the lumens are removed so formalin can penetrate. | Surgical Biopsy Review | Surgical biopsy tissue review includes trimming, processing, embedding, staining, and expert pathology evaluation of submitted formalin-fixed tissue, culminating in a detailed diagnostic report. This service is ideal for ante-mortem diagnostic evaluation of a single tissue. Provide a pertinent clinical history and description of the specimen at time of submission. *Price and turnaround time depend on the complexity of the case and the number of cassettes required per submitted specimen. SAMPLE DROP-OFF INFORMATION
Email us at [email protected] with your request. We will work with you to get you a billing ID if you need one. This will determine if you have an internal or external rate. We will provide any forms that need to be filled out.
- All materials must be in a leak-proof primary container and placed in a secondary container
- Label the container with a piece of tape, a sticker, etc. indicating what liquid it is stored in.
- Email us when you plan to drop off samples
- If you have emailed the submission form to us, please include an additional copy with the samples.
Drop off samples at the reception for the National Biomedical Research Institute located at County Road 98 and Hutchison Road.
PACKAGE PREPARATION FOR SHIPPING
Write BIOHAZARD on the outside of the shipping container. DO NOT provide additional info on contents.
• All materials must be in a leak-proof primary container and placed in a secondary container
• The MAXIMUM amount of formalin per primary container is 30mls. The MAXIMUM amount of formalin per shipment is 1 liter.
• When shipping, formalin should cover the entire piece of tissue.
• Label the container with a piece of tape, a sticker, etc. indicating that the liquid is formalin.
• If you do not want to ship in formalin (tissue is already thoroughly fixed), you can ship in PBS, saline, or 70% alcohol. Label the container accordingly.
• If you have emailed the submission form to us, please include an additional copy with the samples.
